HistoryHISTORY OF 15TH DIDCOTIt all started over 75 years ago, after the community asked for the army's help to provide a social activity for the then young people of Didcot. Colonel Davidson, along with Lieutenant Seyde, started one of the early Scout Troops in Didcot in 1924. Mr Stan Stockwell remembers joining the Scout Movement in 1927. The group he joined at the age of 12 years old had been set up by John Perkins of Park Road. The group became known as the 15th North Berks Scout Troop. From the humble meeting place under the Oak Tree on the Broadway in Didcot (across from the now Peacocks), to a wooden hut near the Railway Station and on to 'Small Bones' Park, to a hut on our current location, which burnt to the ground in 1962 and replaced with our present HQ where we now meet. In 2002 the Group celebrated its 75th Anniversary. To mark this occasion our Beaver Scout Section were very busy with their pens, paint pots and glue, creating a collage celebrating 75 years of Scouting in Didcot. This was displayed in the Library during May 2002. | Upcoming events27-11-2008 |
